Hello, my name is Autumn and welcome to Life Beyond The City.

We live on a 1 1/2 acres in Northern California, and on that land, we have raised a flock of laying hens, grow many varieties of vegetable, herbs, espalier fruit trees, and have a micro table grape vineyard. We are currently on a journey of reviving the old techniques of self-sufficiency living. Learning the ways of the land and the ways of the past.  Once was old is now new again.

We grow our food to provide our family with as much fresh homegrown food as possible in our Potager garden, and share our gardening techniques and recipes with you.

I have a sneaking suspicion that most people have a bit of homesteading spirit hidden deep inside them. It’s kind of like that song “We all got a hillbilly bone down deep inside no matter where you’re from you just can’t hide it, you can’t help but hollering YEE-HAW”!

I started this blog to encourage you to explore those ideas yourself and return to your roots of self-sufficiency and simple living, whether you live on a sprawling ranch or in a high-rise apartment.

Remember, it’s not the destination, it’s the journey. And I look forward to sharing our journey to simple, wholesome, sustainable living with you!
